The Background

Between May 2005 and June 2007, the Jolly Pilgrim was a quirky, whimsical and upbeat travel diary originally emailed to a group of 36 friends. One of those friends set up a website to record the diary, word got around and the site became a cult internet hit.
Following returning from the 740-day, five-continent, 28-country adventure, the original website went static and, for 20 months, the Jolly Pilgrim maintained radio silence.
Why?
Moments of transcendent ecstasy and all encompassing oneness with the rest of the universe are all very well; but they are spontaneous, and ephemeral. Capturing those moments – systematically articulating them in a way that is complete and internally consistent – requires patience, head space and time.
By the time I popped up again it was February 2009 and the book was a year from completion. Since then, this website has acted to keep my fans informed through the final stages of drafting and subsequent progress towards publication.
