What’s the book about?

I’ve been asked for a one-paragraph explanation of the book – something people can use to explain it to their friends.

Here’s a two-paragraph explanation:

The Jolly Pilgrim is a story about a person going on a journey. That journey contains adventure, heartbreak, friendship, struggles against adversity and lots of comedy. There’s also a smattering of sex, drugs and rock and roll. It’s stuff everyone will relate to.

That story is used to reassess what’s happening on this planet. That reassessment is profoundly optimistic and intended to leave the reader both inspired and uplifted. Its purpose is to help initiate a set of conversations about humanity and where we’re going – conversations we can have if we just get over ourselves a little, and which might help shape our thinking in the next millennium or so.

That’s what the book is about.
